About

The Arukah Foundation proposes a comprehensive child welfare project aimed at addressing the growing number of children in the Kannaland district under the care of social services and child welfare. With over 227 children in need of foster care and temporary places of safety, our non-profit organization aims to create a nurturing environment for their healing and restoration.

How Arukah started

In 2017 we had the privilege to plant our very first Royal Family Kids camp in the Klein Karoo. Since then, we have already hosted three very successful camps in the Ladsimith area, where the lives of 74 children attending these camps were completely touched and transformed through this program.  These are children that are severely traumatized because of molestation, abuse, and neglect. Through the programs that are hosted by RFK, the child’s self-esteem is promoted, and his/her human dignity is restored to where he/she can return to simply being a child.  Due to these children’s circumstances, it feels as if they no longer have purpose and meaning. Dignity is restored through the individual attention and loves that these precious children receive at camp.  Many of these children come from foster care homes or are just part of the system, and not much happens after camp. We have asked ourselves many times: “Do five days make a difference in a child’s life?” But it simply isn’t enough. The community needs more than just transformational camps. The children within the community need ongoing programs and long-term solutions.

Our Mission

There are currently more than 227 children in the social welfare system within the Kannaland district and the number is growing daily. These are children who are under the protection and care of social services and child welfare; they’re placed in foster care homes, temporary places of safety, or in emergency placements. The need for temporary places of safety and foster care homes is increasing daily and those currently available simply cannot meet the demand of Kannaland.

Arukah Foundation was birthed to help fill these gaps in the foster care system.  This non-profit organization strives to bring broken children toward healing and restoration. The foundation has a five-year plan where we want to put 5 phases in place to ensure the community’s children for a hopeful future.

Development Phases

In this phase, Arukah Foundation is in the process of establishing foster care and temporary places of safety for at least 6 children in each home. Plans are already underway for the construction of the first home, with additional homes planned.

To promote self-sustainability and provide skills training, agricultural land will be developed. Various cultivars will be grown, offering practical training opportunities for the children.

A training centre will be established to teach basic life skills and agricultural techniques. This program will empower children and adults who may not excel academically but possess practical skills.

Phase 4 involves expanding the capacity of foster care homes to accommodate a maximum of fifty children. Specialist homes will be created to address behavioural problems, disabilities, and rehabilitation needs.

Arukah Foundation will register as a Child and Youth Care Centre, allowing the development of an orphanage for more than 50 children. This phase aims to integrate children into the development process.

Our Vision

  • Create foster care and temporary safety homes.
  • Develop agricultural self-sustainability and skills training.
  • Establish a training center for life skills and agriculture.
  • Expand to accommodate more children with specialized needs.
  • Register as a CYCC and build an orphanage for further child welfare.
